What is Password Generator?
A strong, random password is your first line of defense against unauthorized access. DailyDevTools' Password Generator creates cryptographically random passwords using your browser's Web Crypto API — not a weak pseudorandom number generator. Configure the length (8–128 characters), character sets (uppercase, lowercase, numbers, symbols), and optionally exclude visually ambiguous characters like 0/O and 1/l for passwords that need to be typed manually.
How to use Password Generator
- 1Set your desired password length using the slider — 12+ characters is recommended, 20+ for sensitive accounts
- 2Check the character sets to include: uppercase, lowercase, numbers, and symbols
- 3Enable 'Exclude ambiguous characters' to avoid confusion between 0/O or 1/l when typing manually
- 4Click Generate or the refresh icon to create a new password. Click Copy to copy it instantly.
Frequently asked questions
How random are these passwords?
The generator uses window.crypto.getRandomValues(), a cryptographically secure pseudorandom number generator (CSPRNG) built into all modern browsers — the same source used by security software.
How long should my password be?
NIST recommends at least 12 characters for general use and 16+ for sensitive accounts. For maximum security, use 20+ characters with all character types enabled.
Are generated passwords stored anywhere?
No. Passwords are generated in your browser's memory and never sent to any server. Each generation is completely independent — nothing is logged or retained.
