What is Week Number?

ISO week numbers provide a standardized way to refer to a specific week in a year — useful in project planning, fiscal reporting, and scheduling systems. DailyDevTools' Week Number tool shows the current ISO week number, lets you look up the week number of any date, and lists all weeks in a year with their date ranges — bridging the gap between calendar dates and week-based planning.

How to use Week Number

  1. 1Open the tool to see the current ISO week number and date range for this week
  2. 2Enter any date to look up its week number
  3. 3Browse the full-year calendar table showing all 52 (or 53) weeks and their start/end dates
  4. 4Use the year selector to view week numbers for past or future years

Frequently asked questions

What is an ISO week number?
ISO 8601 defines weeks as starting on Monday. Week 1 is the week containing the year's first Thursday (or equivalently, the week containing January 4). This means January 1 can be in week 52 or 53 of the previous year.
Why might January 1 be in week 52?
If January 1 falls on a Friday, Saturday, or Sunday, it belongs to the last week of the previous year under ISO 8601, because that week's Thursday falls in the previous year.
Do all countries use the same week numbering system?
No. ISO 8601 (Monday start, Thursday rule) is used in Europe and most of the world. The US commonly starts weeks on Sunday, which produces different week numbers. Always specify which system you are using in international projects.
