What is JSON Formatter?
JSON (JavaScript Object Notation) is the standard data interchange format for APIs, config files, and web apps. A JSON formatter takes raw, unreadable JSON strings and adds proper indentation, line breaks, and syntax highlighting so you can quickly understand data structures. DailyDevTools' JSON Formatter validates your JSON in real-time, highlights syntax errors with precise line numbers, and supports tree-view navigation for deeply nested objects — all without sending your data to any server.
How to use JSON Formatter
- 1Paste your JSON string into the left panel, or click Upload to load a .json file from disk
- 2The formatter validates instantly — errors appear as red underlines with the exact line and character position
- 3Use the indent selector to choose 2 or 4 spaces, then click Format to apply
- 4Switch to Tree view to explore nested objects visually, or Convert to export as CSV, YAML, or XML
Frequently asked questions
Is my JSON data sent to any server?
No. DailyDevTools' JSON Formatter runs entirely in your browser. Your data never leaves your device, making it safe for sensitive API responses, tokens, and internal configs.
Can it fix broken JSON?
Yes. The formatter includes an Auto-repair feature that fixes common issues like trailing commas, missing quotes around keys, and single-quoted strings.
What's the maximum JSON size it handles?
The formatter handles most real-world payloads. Very large files (50MB+) may slow down the editor, but there is no hard size cap.
