What is Card Validator?

The Luhn algorithm is a simple checksum formula used to validate identification numbers, particularly credit and debit card numbers. DailyDevTools' Credit Card Validator checks whether a card number passes the Luhn check, identifies the card network (Visa, Mastercard, Amex, Discover, etc.), and formats the number correctly — all locally in your browser. It is useful for form validation logic, payment integration testing, and generating test card numbers.

How to use Card Validator

  1. 1Type or paste a credit card number into the input field
  2. 2The tool instantly shows whether the number passes the Luhn algorithm check
  3. 3The detected card network (Visa, Mastercard, Amex, Discover, JCB, etc.) is displayed automatically
  4. 4Use the Test Numbers generator to get valid test card numbers for development environments

Frequently asked questions

Does the Luhn check mean a card is real and active?
No. The Luhn algorithm only checks mathematical validity of the number format. A number can pass the Luhn check but be a fake, expired, or cancelled card. Real validation requires a payment processor API.
How does card network detection work?
Card networks are identified by their IIN (Issuer Identification Number) — the first 4–6 digits. Visa starts with 4, Mastercard with 51–55 or 2221–2720, Amex with 34 or 37, and Discover with 6011 or 65.
Is it safe to enter real card numbers here?
The tool runs entirely in your browser and sends no data to any server. However, as a general security practice, avoid entering real payment card numbers into any third-party tool unless absolutely necessary.
